About the role
ACREST is recruiting a Renewable Energy & Electrical Engineer to support the installation, commissioning, inspection, maintenance and troubleshooting of solar PV, battery-storage and electrical systems across programme sites. The role will also support factory and satellite-centre electrical infrastructure and coordinate technical interventions with contractors and equipment suppliers.
The role is based in Cameroon and requires regular travel to programme implementation and distribution areas depending on operational needs.

ACREST is a Cameroonian non-governmental organisation developing practical, locally grounded solutions that improve livelihoods, strengthen communities and support sustainable development. ACREST is expanding a large-scale clean cooking programme focused on improving access to efficient cooking solutions for households and communities across the West, Littoral and South-West regions of Cameroon. The programme combines stove distribution, community engagement, monitoring, technical operations and the progressive development of local production capacity. ACREST is also developing CleanTechCameroon SARL, its subsidiary dedicated to local clean-technology production and related industrial activities.
Responsibilities
- Support installation and commissioning of solar PV, battery-storage and electrical systems.
- Inspect electrical installations and maintain preventive-maintenance schedules.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, inverter, battery and distribution faults.
- Support electrical infrastructure for offices, programme centres and future production facilities.
- Maintain technical records, schematics, inspection reports and maintenance logs.
- Coordinate contractors, suppliers and technical service providers.
- Monitor system performance and recommend efficiency or reliability improvements.
- Support electrical safety procedures, isolation practices and safe work standards.
- Assist with equipment specifications, technical procurement and acceptance testing.
- Train relevant staff on safe operation and first-line troubleshooting where appropriate.
Requirements
- Engineering degree in electrical engineering, renewable energy engineering or a closely related field.
- Three to seven years of relevant professional experience.
- Practical experience with solar PV systems and battery energy storage.
- Good understanding of electrical distribution, protection, earthing and safety.
- Ability to read technical drawings and electrical diagrams.
- Strong troubleshooting and field problem-solving skills.
- Experience coordinating contractors or installation teams is an advantage.
- Professional proficiency in English or French; bilingual capability is preferred.
- Ability and willingness to travel between programme sites.
- Right to work in Cameroon.
Specific requirements
- Relevant professional certifications in solar PV, electrical installation or safety are an advantage.
- Hands-on experience commissioning systems and resolving faults is strongly preferred.
- The role will support both current programme infrastructure and future local production facilities.
