About the role

ACREST is recruiting an Accountant to manage financial records, budgeting support, reconciliations, reporting and compliance documentation. The role will work closely with management and programme teams to maintain strong financial controls and reliable information for decision-making and audit readiness.

The role is based in Cameroon and requires regular travel to programme implementation and distribution areas depending on operational needs.

About ACREST

ACREST is a Cameroonian non-governmental organisation developing practical, locally grounded solutions that improve livelihoods, strengthen communities and support sustainable development. ACREST is expanding a large-scale clean cooking programme focused on improving access to efficient cooking solutions for households and communities across the West, Littoral and South-West regions of Cameroon. The programme combines stove distribution, community engagement, monitoring, technical operations and the progressive development of local production capacity. ACREST is also developing CleanTechCameroon SARL, its subsidiary dedicated to local clean-technology production and related industrial activities.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports and management information.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting and budget-versus-actual monitoring.
  • Complete bank, cash and balance-sheet reconciliations.
  • Review expenses, invoices, advances and supporting documents.
  • Support statutory, tax, CNPS and other financial compliance requirements.
  • Maintain accounting files in line with SYSCOHADA/OHADA requirements where applicable.
  • Coordinate with auditors and prepare schedules and supporting documentation.
  • Supervise and support Finance Assistants.
  • Strengthen financial procedures, controls and documentation across programme locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • At least five years of relevant accounting or finance experience.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practical experience with SYSCOHADA/OHADA.
  • Experience preparing management reports, reconciliations and audit support.
  • Good knowledge of Cameroonian tax, payroll or CNPS-related processes is an advantage.
  • Advanced Excel skills and confidence using accounting software.
  • Strong accuracy, organisation and document-control habits.
  • Professional proficiency in English or French; bilingual capability is preferred.
  • Right to work in Cameroon.

Specific requirements

  • Professional accounting qualifications or progress toward them are an advantage.
  • Experience in externally funded or development programmes, infrastructure or multi-site operations is useful but not mandatory.
  • The Accountant will work closely with programme management and supervise day-to-day finance support.
