Employment type
Part-time
Experience
5+ years in carbon markets and MRV

Guide a large-scale improved-cookstove programme through the full Gold Standard carbon-project cycle — from methodology and baseline to MRV, validation and verification.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Gold Standard carbon and MRV consultant to provide ongoing technical support to a large-scale improved-cookstove programme in Cameroon. The consultant will support the programme through the carbon-project cycle, including methodology assessment, project design, baseline development, monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV), validation, registration and verification.

This is a flexible, part-time consultancy rather than a full-time position or fixed-term assignment. The consultant will be engaged as project needs arise, with an initial level of effort agreed in days per month. The work will be primarily remote, with occasional travel to Cameroon requested and agreed separately.

About ACREST

ACREST is a Cameroonian non-governmental organisation developing practical, locally grounded solutions that improve livelihoods, strengthen communities and support sustainable development. ACREST is expanding a large-scale clean cooking programme focused on improving access to efficient cooking solutions for households and communities across the West, Littoral and South-West regions of Cameroon. The programme combines stove distribution, community engagement, monitoring, technical operations and the progressive development of local production capacity. ACREST is also developing CleanTechCameroon SARL, its subsidiary dedicated to local clean-technology production and related industrial activities.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the programme against current Gold Standard eligibility requirements and identify the correct applicable clean-cooking methodology.
  • Review the proposed cookstove technologies, fuels, distribution model and carbon-crediting assumptions.

  • Calculate expected emission reductions and prepare transparent, auditable calculation models.
  • Design the programme’s MRV framework, including field-data requirements, digital data collection, quality controls and audit trails.
  • Define requirements for stove identification, household onboarding, proof of distribution, household consent, usage monitoring and replacement tracking.
  • Support stakeholder consultation, safeguarding, gender and sustainable-development requirements.
  • Review carbon rights, environmental-attribute transfers, double-counting risks and benefit-sharing considerations.
  • Support engagement with the Validation and Verification Body (VVB) and Gold Standard.
  • Prepare responses to clarification requests, corrective-action requests and other reviewer findings.
  • Train and advise the local programme, field and data-management teams.
  • Provide periodic technical reviews and strategic advice throughout registration, monitoring and verification.

Requirements

  • At least five years of professional experience in carbon markets, carbon-project development, climate-finance certification or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrable hands-on experience with Gold Standard clean-cooking or household-energy projects.
  • Strong knowledge of cookstove baselines, fuel-use studies, Kitchen Performance Tests, sampling, uncertainty, leakage, stove stacking, usage monitoring and fNRB.
  • Experience preparing Project Design Documents, monitoring plans, emission-reduction calculations and responses to validator or registry findings.
  • Strong quantitative, technical-writing and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and deliver accurate technical work within agreed deadlines.
  • Professional fluency in English.

Specific requirements

  • Direct involvement in at least one project that reached validation, registration, verification or carbon-credit issuance.
